The Joint Program in Business Administration and Arts is a unique program which combines BA studies in Business Administration and Arts, with a focus on Art History / Musicology / Theatre Studies. Graduates of the program enjoy all the advantages and possibilities open to graduates of the Business Administration and Arts programs. They also receive additional training which prepares them for integrating into arts and cultural institutions. Graduates’ education includes business and artistic perspectives of the way cultural institutions are organized and managed, and they acquire a unique set of skills which enables them to turn their love of art into a profession which is in high demand in the world of art and culture. Graduates of the programs have integrated into leading cultural institutions in Jerusalem and Israel, such as The Israel Museum, HaZira Performance Art Arena, Ma’amuta Art Center, The Bible Lands Museum and more.
Students study for a BA degree in Business Administration and one of the departments at the Institute of Arts (Art History / Musicology / Theatre Studies). They also receive special training in courses which are designed especially for the program and expose them to the variety of art fields, to the artistic experience, to issues related to administering art institutions in Israel and more. During their studies, students are introduced to historical, performative and value aspects of the administration of art institutions and acquires practical knowledge required for such work. From the first week of their studies, students visit a variety of art events (exhibitions, performances, concerts, plays, etc.) in order to become better acquainted with the art scene in Jerusalem in particular and in Israel in general. Parallelly, students also meet with managers of leading art institutions, such as the Israel Museum, the Israeli Opera, the Israel Festival, the Tel Aviv Museum, HaZira Performance Art Arena, The Yellow Submarine and more, and receive a rare glimpse to the occurrences ‘behind the scenes’ related to the administration of the institutions. The program also includes workshops conducted by leading lecturers, which familiarize students with specific topics related to arts administration, such as developing a digital marketing strategy for art organizations, resource development for art institutions, copyright laws and more. During the third year of their studies, students complete an intensive internship, where they have the opportunity to gain practical work experience in a leading Israeli art institution of their choice. A coordinator and advisor is assigned to the group during their studies and is attentive to their special needs.
The Joint Program offers its graduates all the advantages of a BA degree in Business Administration and Arts, while also preparing them to work as managers of art institutions. Students are exposed to cultural contexts, to art works and to questions of performance and the value of art. The integrated business and artistic knowledge acquired in the program is of crucial importance to the ability to successfully run cultural institutions and to advance different artistic initiatives with economic and artistic success. Students thus gain a diverse and unique set of skills which differentiates them in the job market of young managers, providing them with an innovative, original and creative perspective, which places them in high demand in the art world. The program also offers its excellent students the possibility of completing an MBA degree within four years of commencing their studies, or alternatively of completing an MA in one of the departments of the Institute of Arts.
